Raise your kids to have a good understanding of money; appreciate how it is earnt and spent and be grateful for what they have in life.
We pay for things on plastic cards and get money out of a machine in the wall, yet get frustrated with our kids when they don't appreciate money - go figure...
These days we have everything at our fingertips - Netflix, Spotify, Google etc., so it's no surprise kids want everything 'right now' as well. They generally don't understand the value of money, and that you have to work hard to earn it.
Imagine the life-skills they are getting if they learn from a young age the importance of saving and sharing. How the money we earn has to cover life's essentials like electricity and water, and not just fun thing like holidays and the latest shoes. Learning to be grateful for what they do have in life, and not taking things for granted.
This is what the Raise Money Smart Kids program is all about. It's a great foundation to give them a basic knowledge of how money works, how it's generated, the importance of saving and how being grateful for what you have is so important.
The program won't take up a huge amount of your time, and doesn't include you to do any 'homework'. It simply addresses things to chat to your kids about, plus some really useful resources to help along the way.

I have been working with all-things-money for nearly 20 years.
I was a financial adviser for 15 of those years, and not too long ago, decided to move on from financial planning and follow my love of mixing business with creativity.
As a Mum of 2 kids, and being in the money business for so long, I was quite frustrated (and embarrassed) that our two little cherubs didn't have a great understanding of money.
And when I thought about that a bit more, it was pretty obvious really.... we pay for things with a plastic card, and get cash out of machine in the wall - how can we just magically expect our children understand the value of money. That it has to be 'earnt'. That we have to save. That we have to pay for essential things like electricity and water (not just holidays and the latest shoes). That we can't always 'want', 'want', 'want' - to be grateful for what we already have.
So that's where Raise Money Smart Kids comes in. It's about giving kids a basic understanding that will be a great foundation for life. About teaching them you have to work hard to earn money (well, the majority of us do), that we have to save some of that money we earn, that very little in life is free, and most importantly - be appreciative of what we do have!
It's not going to take up a whole heap of your time, your kids aren't going to hate you for making them do more 'homework', it's a simple program that provides a guide on what to chat about with your kids and some useful resources to help along the way (like savings charts, jobs lists and gratitude challenges).
It suits kids aged between 5 and about 13-14. However, it's never too late to learn. For the price of the program, it's worth it no matter what age the kids are. If they only take away ONE thing from the program, it's worth it.
